OAK Passenger Traffic Up 11% Percent in October

Bay Area Airport a Model of the Region’s Upward Mobility

Oakland, CA – December 1, 2015: Perhaps it is the glorious weather in Oakland that has the Oakland International Airport blowing into the fall season with a flurry of passengers. October 2015 announced 23 straight months of passenger growth for the Airport.

What this means is that for nearly two years, and counting, OAK has seen a steady upward trend in the number of people flying in and out of the burgeoning San Francisco Bay Area city. The numbers are already tallying up to report that the trend will continue through the end of the year.

October’s passenger growth was particularly noteworthy in that it boasted double-digits from the same time last year. With 984,557 travelers having crossed its gates, in October, the airport reached an 11% increase when compared to October 2014 to – a noteworthy jump in the aviation world. Cumulatively in 2015, through October, the airport’s passenger traffic grew 8.2%, putting OAK on track to top 11 million passengers for the calendar year.

“This pattern shows that there is a growing demand for travel. People have a choice and they are choosing Oakland,” said Acting Director of Aviation Kristi McKenney. “We are very proud of the 49 destinations we now offer from OAK, and we look forward to expanding that number in the near future. Just last week, we celebrated one year AND one million riders in a successful first year of BART service. Our customers are happy, and it is reflected in these numbers.”

OAK’s convenient location, amazing parking deals, futuristic BART rail-line, and on-time performance are just a few things on the list of amenities offered by OAK. Judging by the steady incline in passengers, the formula seems to be working.
