Celebration starts early with activities for travelers on August 2
Oakland, Calif. – July 31, 2024: San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) is going big this year to celebrate National Aviation Day. Ahead of the August 19 holiday, the airport will offer aviation-related activities and goodies for passengers in the Terminal 1-Terminal 2 connector on Friday, August 2. The event will run from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
“We look forward to celebrating National Aviation Day with passengers at our in-terminal event this coming Friday,” says Craig Simon, Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “National Aviation Day, established in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, reminds all of us of the incredible developments that have been made in the field of aviation throughout history.”
A number of activities will be available for passengers on August 2 in the terminal connector:
- There will be a station dedicated to making and coloring paper airplanes, as well as a game where travelers may attempt to fly their paper aircraft through hoops.
- A separate coloring station will also be available, and passenger artwork will be displayed on the walls after the conclusion of the event.
- Free popcorn and airport-branded promotional items available for travelers (while supplies last).
- A special aviation-themed music playlist will also be available via QR code.
- Take a selfie at any of the Aviation Day photo stations.
Also in coordination with National Aviation Day, the airport hosted a photo contest on its Facebook and Instagram profiles from June 12 through July 12. Members of the public were invited to submit their OAK-related photos for a chance to be featured in the airport’s terminals and online via the airport’s website and social media.
For those who will not be flying through OAK on August 2, we encourage following San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport on social media to observe the festivities.
