“Aloha Monday” at OAK, the Birthplace of Transpacific Flying to Hawaii

Start the Week with Hula Dancers, Free Parking, and the Spirit of Aloha

Oakland, CA – October 30, 2015:

BACKGROUND

OAK was the place in June, 1927, when Army Lieutenants Lester Maitland and Albert Hegenberger completed the first-ever successful flight across the Pacific Ocean to the Hawaiian island of Oahu. They departed just after 7:00 a.m. from what is now known as Oakland International Airport, and arrived on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu nearly 26 hours later.

TODAY

The journey time from OAK to Hawaii by air is now just over 5 hours aboard state-of-the art aircraft from two of the world’s most highly-acclaimed airlines offering service with a genuine Polynesian flair and the true spirit of Aloha. Both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines depart from OAK, like Maitland and Hegenberger, at 7:00 a.m. for Hawaii. Passengers can arrive and be on the beach before lunchtime.

OAK HAS IT COVERED WITH NONSTOPS to OAHU, MAUI, KAUAI and the ISLAND of HAWAII

Today, there is nonstop service to all four major Hawaiian Islands, provided by Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. With a choice of two award winning airlines, four wonderful islands combined with leaving on-time in the morning and five days of free parking, the hardest choice may be deciding on which island to visit first. Departing from OAK, however, is the easy choice.

To celebrate, Monday morning, November 2, OAK, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines welcome you to experience the spirit of Aloha in the very place where it all began. We welcome you to join us for #AlohaMonday at OAK.

At OAK, we’re bringing vacation in-house — complete with live performers from the Academy of Hawaiian Arts, Kumu Hula Mark Keali’i Ho’omalu, and the 2016 Merrie Monarch Team, island treats, and fresh flower leis. Both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines will provide a free pair of airline tickets to lucky winners during the day’s festivities. Win by submitting your name during the morning festivities.

On offer only at OAK from now until March 31st, when you fly from OAK to Hawaii you can register and park free for up to 5 days in our convenient, on-airport Daily Lot. That’s a $110 value. It’s our way of saying, mahalo for flying OAK to Hawaii. Why leave from anywhere else?

Event will take place on Monday, November 2, from 6:00 – 9:30 a.m. at Terminal 1 in the Oakland International Airport. Aloha!
