OAK Participates in Fleet Week 2015 Activities

Famed Blue Angels Return to OAK for Spectacular Air Show

Oakland, CA (September 29, 2015) – The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is reaching out to nearby communities to inform everyone about the upcoming Fleet Week 2015 activities.  Fleet Week will bring the Blue Angels (a high performance Naval air team) to the Bay Area in October.

The Blue Angels perform each year during Fleet Week and will be based at the Oakland International Airport for the second year in a row.

OAK is reaching out to nearby communities to inform and make residents aware of the unusual flight activity associated with Fleet Week 2015.

OAK recognizes community noise concerns associated with such an event. Although North Field departures and arrivals will occur, OAK Airport has worked with the Blue Angels and the FAA to minimize noise by using the South Field main runway to the extent practical.

Performance Times

The planned schedule for the high performance flights when aircraft noise will be most noticeable is as follows:

  • October 4 at 6:00 p.m. Blue Angels arrival (South Field, Main Runway)
  • October 5 at 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Media flights (South Field, Main Runway)
  • October 8 at 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Airshow practice (North Field)
  • October 9 at 2:55 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights (North Field)
  • October 10 at 2:55 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights (North Field)
  • October 11 at 2:55 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Airshow flights (North Field)
  • October 12 at 10:00 a.m. Blue Angels departure (South Field, Main Runway)

Community Outreach

The Airport’s outreach efforts are part of an established Noise Abatement Program that works with surrounding communities on noise concerns related to operations at OAK in addition to other duties such as monitoring aircraft activities and educating pilots and air traffic controllers on noise procedures.

The Airport maintains a list of citizens and organizations that receive regular airport community advisories on any unusual conditions or activity that could affect aircraft operations. If you would like to be added to our community advisory notification list please contact the Noise Hot Line at (510) 563-6463.
