OAK Passenger Traffic Up 8.7% for Year Ended June 30, 2015

19 Consecutive Months of Passenger Growth at the SF Bay Area Airport

Oakland, CA – August 28, 2015: Oakland International Airport (OAK) ended the Port of Oakland fiscal year (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015) with a total of 10,754,556 passengers, up 8.7% from the previous fiscal year. Strong passenger growth reflected the positive response to numerous new flights and new domestic and international destinations added at the airport in the past twelve months. Also, the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) rail ridership to and from the Oakland International Airport Station is up an impressive 36% for the 2015 calendar year to date.

During the fiscal year, additional flights in existing markets and nine new destinations were added. The new destinations are: Leon/Guanajuato, Tijuana, and Morelia in Mexico; Dallas-Love, Baltimore, Houston-Bush Intercontinental, Omaha, New Orleans, and Nashville. The airport now has scheduled nonstop service to a record high of 49 destinations worldwide, including five cities in Mexico, two in Europe and the four main Hawaiian Islands.

“We’ve been working closely with our airline partners to promote OAK as “the Best Way to San Francisco Bay” and they have responded by adding more routes, many of them unique in the Bay Area and available only at OAK.” said Kristi McKenney, Acting Director of Aviation for the Port of Oakland. “Airline passengers immediately responded to the new services and ridership at the OAK BART Station also continues to grow on a year-over-year basis. This validates our assertion that when new and innovative services are offered at OAK they will be met with a robust response from San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors alike.”

In the coming year, the Port of Oakland will continue the work to grow and become the region’s airport of choice as the new routes are sustained and even more new service is added. Retention of all of the new service and additional daytime transcontinental flights, more flights to Europe and Latin America and service Asia are top marketing priorities.
