OAK Welcomes New Spirit Airlines Houston Service

Daily Nonstop Flight Links OAK to 5th city in Texas

Oakland, CA – April 16, 2015 – Oakland International Airport (OAK) welcomed Spirit Airlines’ inaugural flight from Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) this morning, the fourth new route to open at OAK so far this year and its fifth nonstop link to a city in Texas.

The addition of nonstop flights to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport makes OAK the only San Francisco Bay Area Airport to offer nonstop service to both Houston airports. Southwest Airlines offers daily service between OAK and Houston Hobby Airport.

“Houston is one of our top markets, and we are excited to have this new daily link with Bush Intercontinental by Spirit Airlines,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Deborah Ale Flint. “This service brings yet another convenient new alternative for Bay Area travelers here at OAK, and will certainly bring more business and leisure visitors from Texas to our region.”

Houston is the Bay Area’s 16th largest origin and destination market with more than 75,000 travelers annually.

Spirit’s new Houston-Oakland service offers daily nonstop flights departing Houston at 7:30 a.m. and arriving at Oakland at 9:38 a.m. The return flight departs OAK at 10:18 a.m. and arrives back in Houston at 4:01 p.m. (All times local.) Spirit operates all flights with its young fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.

Oakland International Airport is Spirit’s exclusive gateway in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the new service inaugurated today, the airline offers daily nonstop flights between OAK and Las Vegas (LAS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW).

Known for dramatically lowering airfares in every market it enters, Spirit provides an a-la-carte fare structure allowing passengers to pay only for the services and amenities they desire – such as its popular “Big Front Seat” – a wider seat with additional legroom and no middle seat at the front of the cabin.
