‘San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport’ name official – Unanimous final vote by Oakland Board of Port Commissioners

Oakland, Calif. – May 9, 2024: The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners unanimously voted today and granted final approval to rename the “Metropolitan Oakland International Airport” to “OAK.” With the new name, the Port aims to attract more nonstop destinations by boosting travelers’ geographic awareness of the airport’s location on the San Francisco Bay.

New Berkeley-based restaurant opens in Terminal 1 at OAK

New quick-service restaurant Cancún Sabor Mexicano is now open and serving passengers at Oakland International Airport’s Terminal 1. The new restaurant is based on the East Bay streetside location of the same name located in Berkeley.

Oakland, East Bay residents comfortable with modifying airport’s name

Oakland, CA – April 8, 2024: The Port of Oakland released survey results today showing that local residents are comfortable with modifying the airport’s name. There was overwhelming support for the airport’s efforts to attract new travel destinations, create and sustain local jobs, and increase the economic vitality of Oakland, the East Bay, and greater Bay Area.

Port of Oakland considers name modification for OAK

The Port of Oakland will consider modifying the airport’s name to OAK from its current official name, the Metropolitan Oakland International Airport (OAK). The airport code OAK and visual brand will not change.

Advanced Air launches at Oakland International Airport

On Sunday, March 17th, Advanced Air will launch its inaugural service at OAK (OAK) with daily nonstop flights to Crescent City (CEC). Flights will be served by Advanced Air’s fleet of Dornier 328 Jets, seating 30 passengers.
