Spirit Airlines Commences Service from OAK to LAX

New Twice-Daily Service in Bay-to-Basin Corridor

Oakland, CANovember 12, 2015: Today, Spirit Airlines commenced two daily non-stop flights between Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The “Bay-to-Basin” corridor, as Spirit calls it, is one of the world’s busiest air-travel markets. The new addition brings the total number of flights connecting OAK and LAX to 24 daily flights, combined with multiple flights daily on the route currently offered by Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

“Spirit’s new service out of Oakland International Airport is a welcome expansion of choices for travelers, and with their a-la-carte pricing strategies, customers have a range of products from which to choose,” said Kristi McKenney, Acting Director of Aviation for the Oakland International Airport.

Known for dramatically lowering airfares in markets that it enters, Spirit uses an a-la-carte approach to pricing, allowing passengers to pay only for the services and amenities they desire. For example, customers can choose to pay for amenities such as the popular “Big Front Seat” – a wider seat with additional legroom and no middle seat at the front of the cabin.

Oakland International Airport is Spirit’s only destination in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the new service inaugurated today, the airline offers daily nonstop flights between OAK and Las Vegas (LAS), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW). Service to Houston-Intercontinental (IAH) recommences in April 2016.
